Fun for All Ages on Menorca
When travelling with your tribe, you will no doubt want to be close to lots of amenities, within an easy stroll of the sand and sea and within close proximity to some good restaurants, bars and shops. The resort of Son Bou is split into three districts: San Jaime, Son Bou and Torre Soli Nou, and the first two are definite winners when it comes to fulfilling all of these requirements. On top of which there are some excellent fun filled days out close by too, which is good news especially if you have teenagers and tweenies travelling with you.
While mum and dad are chilling out at the beach bar or reading on the sun beds, the youngsters can be playing in the calm clear waters, enjoying a game of beach ball or building sandcastles. Could there be a better image for a relaxing break?
Our Favourite Menorca Family Resorts: San Jaime
Located on the beach, this is the place to go if you and the kids fancy trying out some water sports action. There is wind surfing, banana boating, canoeing, and snorkelling, and that is just for starters! Sheltered by the wooded hills, the waters are perfect for children just finding their feet in the sea. Stretching 3km along the shoreline, the golden sandy shore is ideal for long morning walks or early evening strolls. There is also a train, known as the ‘fun train’ that offers a fabulous way to explore the area with the kids, and saves on the complaining if your villa is a walk away from the sand.
Menorca family holidays don’t have to just be about the sea; for a change of pace, you can always head out to the conservation area that backs on to the resort, or why not take a trip to the Iron Age Fort at the far end of the beach?
We have a wonderful selection of hand-picked properties in San Jaime, each with private pool and beautiful al fresco eating area. Here are some we recommend for families.
Choice Villas in San Jaime
This villa has oodles of space and, located in a leafy garden with gated pool, it is a gem of a spot for families. Air conditioning comes as standard and there is Wi-Fi and TV too. The barbeque makes outdoor eating a doddle and the roof terrace is a prime spot for watching the sunset over the resort.
With the beach only a ten-minute walk away and the shops even closer, Ca’n Caules is ideally situated. The gated terrace offers mums and dads peace of mind when it comes to keeping the little ones contained and away from the pool, while the dishwasher, washing machine and microwave help make the practical side of self-catering a bit easier. The air-conditioning is a bonus, as is the free Wi-Fi, and the pool table, which is bound to keep the youngsters happy when they need some time in the cool.
Mums and dads will no doubt find the washing machine and microwave an added bonus.
Our Favourite Menorca Family Resorts: Torre Soli Nou, Son Bou
Built specifically as a resort, this pretty spot boasts a natural setting and a stunning beach that it shares with its neighbouring districts. Torre Soli Nou is the quieter end of Son Bou and this makes it an excellent choice when it comes to Menorca family holidays.
You can let the children swim in the sea at Son Bou, knowing that a lifeguard is on hand should there be an issue, and you can rent umbrellas and sunbeds if you are in for a long day sunbathing. It is a lovely place to explore on foot, by bike or even on horseback and, as the shore is separated from the resort by the conservation area, it feels quite private.
Our villas in Son Bou are a pleasure. Each one is hand-picked with care and attention; here are three of our favourites that are well suited for Menorca family holidays.
Choice Villas in Son Bou
This large spacious four bed villa is ideal for families, especially those with younger children. The gated terrace means that the youngsters can’t get to the pool unless they are accompanied, and the fact that this place also has a washing machine makes it a great option for people with kids. Teens will love the fact that they can hook up to the rest of the world with the free Wi-Fi, while younger children may need some TV downtime in an afternoon and will be happy that they can access English Satellite.
The BBQ is another excellent feature at Terra. It makes self-catering a breeze!
Imagine cooking outside on the barbeque, drink in hand, gazing over the stunning view of a Menorcan beach resort. Well, you can do just that at this spacious and well-appointed villa. With four bedrooms and two en suite, this makes a good option if you are travelling with another family.
Air conditioning and Wi-Fi are available, as is Satellite TV with English channels. While we might not want the kids to use the screens too much when they are on holiday, sometimes a bit of downtime is needed, even if it is to give the mums and dads a break!
If you are looking for your next holiday en famille, you really should consider Menorca. Family resorts, such as San Jaime and Son Bou come highly recommended and, with such excellent accommodation options, you know you have lots of flexibility and choice.
